Update - ASO Google Review Tracker [December 2023]
"I highly recommend Sports Academy!" - Cramer
Welcome to the first Academy Sports + Outdoors monthly Google review tracker update!
Below, find a high-level overview and check out some of the best and the worst reviews of the month. As well as the link for the updated spreadsheet.
I realize it may make sense to duplicate the effort and also track Google reviews for Dick’s Sporting Goods to comp it against. But I have a full-time job and four small children, so it may not happen. But then again, it might. Cliffhanger!
Overall result: Total number of ratings increased by 33 from November, but average rating decreased 4.1% to 4.17 stars. Quite a few complaints about depleted inventory around Christmas holiday. Bad for the consumer, but seems like a good problem for shareholders? We’ll see how the credit/debit card data from BofA Securities looks from Christmas week when released soon.
Top Rated Store: We actually have a tie for top rated store at 4.67 stars - Matthews, NC and Lewisville, TX locations. If you put those two together, you get Matthew Lewis, which is the name of one of my best friends and I’m adding this part in here to see if he reads my posts like he says he does.
Lowest Rated Store: Sadly, the lowest rated store this month with 3.77 stars is the Sugar Land, TX location… the same store I got my first baseball glove and fishing pole. Very sad!
Most Improved Store: Congrats to the fine bourbon-drinking folks in Lexington, KY for improving your rating by 5.7% m/m to an average rating of 4.00 stars.
Opposite of Most Improved Store: Pinellas Park, FL dropped from 4.79 to 3.88 stars, a decline of 18.9%. Nothing to see here, just a tough comp, I think maybe.
Three of the best reviews of the month:
Like Cramer, I also highly recommend Sports Academy… Buy! Buy! Buy!
I love when people make jokes to themselves on the internet!
Do you know where our good friend Russ didn’t buy a gun? At Dick’s. Pew pew! (Not actually a top review, but wanted to take my shot at DKS).
Three of the worst reviews of the month:
Academy offers customers free assembly on big purchases like bikes - a nice perk! They just don’t tell you that sometimes they assemble it backwards…
Academy isn’t perfect but I do feel bad when customers leave the store feeling frustrated and annoyed annd having ancc nothing.
That’s on you Reginal. Very sad team!
